Last night we were lucky to find a campsite, somewhere in the woods. What a sight in the morning with the lake's surface hidden under a blanket of the mist. The rising sun slowly revealed turquoise nakedness of the water. We woke up by the small lake in the forest.
After the breakfast we left little Lake Margrethe, we headed towards Sleeping Bear Dunes. These dunes by Lake Michigan are a very popular destination for tourists. People come here to see huge sand hills and swim in one of the Great Lakes. We followed the masses to do exactly the same.
We followed the Dunes Trail, which starts with a long sand climb. The farther we walked, the fewer people were around us. Apparently, the sandy ground makes it difficult to hike. The goal here is the lakeshore. A swim in its waters was a long-awaited reward. For us accustomed to the salty ocean waves, the calm fresh waters of Lake Michigan were a nice new experience.
