Europe is a mixture of different "ethnic types". Territorial differences in language and other cultural aspects are easily recognizable. European peoples can be divided by territorial homeland, culture, religion, language, and even physical characteristics. Even if some groups may have similar languages, religion and coexist side by side within the same country, they remain distinct from each other. These differences place Europe in sharp contrast to colonized new lands such as Australia, Canada and the United States.
