Totenburg Mausoleum

The greenery-covered, dilapidated structure in what is now Wałbrzych in Poland is a relic of the Nazi era. Until 1945, it was the territory of the Third Reich. In 1938, for propaganda purposes, the Nazis built a monumental structure called Schlesier Ehrenmal. The rectangular, austere structure was a temple for the promotion of ideology through the numerous Nazi ceremonies organized here.

In the center of the courtyard of the mausoleum, now called Totenburg, there used to be a tall column. A fire that could be seen from a distance burned on its top. Four lions were placed at its base. This is where commemorative wreaths were laid. In keeping with the Nazi architectural style, the building was sparsely decorated. The symbolism of the place was in line with the ideology of the time and was intended to refer to its Germanic roots.
